CLASS IS IN SESSION!
Ok ladies, we’re getting back to the basics with this one. It seems what we thought was ‘common weave knowledge’ is not so common after all. Social media has enabled us to have open lines of communication 24/7 with you gals and while overwhelming at times, we do read EVERY SINGLE COMMENT/DM. We want to make sure that all of our BES babes are happy and fully informed and realize that what may be common sense for us, isn’t for you. We receive questions on a daily basis on everything from “how much hair do I need?” to “what is a weft?!”
Well ladies, this one’s for you!
Weave - A hairstyle that weaves real or artificial hair into a person’s natural hair to create a thicker, longer, or more glamorous look. A weave is a type of extension.
Leave out - The part of one’s hair that’s left out to cover the weave. Typically, when you wear a weave, you leave the front of your hair out to cover up any braids or weave tracks (AKA wefts). This gives you a more natural look because your real hairline is visible.
Closure - A closure is a circular piece of weft hair, typically used with a full weave to cover all of the wearer’s hair. It’s usually made of silk or lace. A cosmetologist attaches the piece to a cornrow base to hide any of the wearer’s real hair.
Frontal - Made from the same material as a closure, a frontal covers a larger area, usually the front of the hair. It gives a straight ear-to-ear hairline.
Bundle - A single collection of hair ranging from 1 to 5 ounces.
Virgin - In the hair world, virgin refers to a collection of hair taken from a single donor and not chemically processed.
Weft - A bundle of extensions in which individual hair strands are attached to a reinforced stitch. To make this type of hair extension, technicians sew or “weft” bulk hair together into a bundle. A weft can be thin and strong or thick and loose. Some wefts are hand-tied while others are machine-sewn.
‘MM’ - MM is the abbreviation for a millimeter. It refers to the diameter of that specific curl (i.e. 6mm etc). A good rule of thumb, the larger the MM the larger the curl.
How Many Bundles Do I Need?
Many get away with one 5oz bundle, depending on the head size and how your stylist braids down your hair. But here are the BES suggestions for a full head with no closure or frontal added. If adding a closure, remove 1 bundle, and if adding a frontal remove 1-2 bundles:
8”-12” : 3 to 4 bundles
14”- 20” : 4 bundles
22” - 30” : 5 bundles
8”-12” : 3 bundles
14”- 20” : 3 to 4 bundles
22” - 30” : 4 bundles
8”-12” : 2 bundles
14”- 20” : 3 bundles
22” - 30” : 3 bundles
8”-12” : 1 bundle
14”- 20” : 2 bundles
22” - 30” : 3 bundles
CAN I BLEACH THE HAIR?
Yes! You can definitely bleach BES hair. We would suggest going to a stylist that actually specializes in bleaching hair, since we have no refund and exchanges if you mess up your hair experiment. Remember, bleaching isn’t actually good for hair period. And excessive bleaching will loosen your natural hair and our hair extensions by up to 1 centimeter. However, we would like to strongly express that if you bleach BES hair the curl pattern does not fall completely.
CAN I COLOR THE HAIR?
Yes! You can choose to color the hair yourself, or request the hair be colored with your purchase. We offer colors #1 Jet Black, #1B Natural Black, #2 Dark Brown, #3 Medium Brown and #4 Light Brown. When we color the hair, we color the hair before making your desired curl pattern for maximum results!
CAN I MIX TEXTURES?
Yes, if you’d like. However we do not sell a mixed bundle. Meaning you cannot purchase 1 bundle of hair and part of that bundle is one texture and another part of that same bundle is another texture. You will need to order 2 separate bundles if you would like to mix textures.
HOW DO I STYLE THE HAIR?
The beautiful thing about BES hair is that you get to treat the hair just like your own natural hair. Majority of people are used to silicone curls, where the curl pattern looks exactly the same across the board, and you don’t do anything and the curl stays there. That is not BES hair at all. You actually have to wake up and do your hair. If you are not used to a big head full of kinky curls, it can be overwhelming at first. But we guarantee that once you get a regimen down, hair styling will be a breeze and extremely fun!
If you click on the curl pattern you’d like, we have full hair care directions in the description. But the simplest way we can advise is this:
PART HAIR BY THE TRACK (a track is the single wefted row)
BRUSH THAT TRACK
MOVE ON TO THE NEXT TRACK
BRUSH THAT TRACK
KEEP GOING UNTIL ALL TRACKS ARE BRUSHED OUT
WET THE HAIR
ADD PRODUCT (we recommend the product(s) in the BES ‘Hair Products & More’ section)
AIR DRY, DIFFUSE, OR BLOW DRY
WAIT UNTIL THE HAIR IS DRY BEFORE PLAYING IN IT, SO YOU DON’T CAUSE FRIZZ
There you have it ladies! As the consumer, knowing this information prior to making a purchase will be SO beneficial and hopefully will give you more buyers’ confidence. So keep those comments/questions/DMs/emails coming.
